6 Ways To Stay Hydrated That Are Not Water
How to stay hydrated AF
Staying hydrated is key when it comes to boosting energy, staying focused and alert, reducing irritability, maintaining a healthy weight and to just overall feeling our best. The exact amount of fluid you need depends on your weight, the temperature outside, how much you exercise, and your current state of health. But a general rule to follow is half your body weight in ounces. So, if you weight 150 pounds, aim for 75 ounces of fluid a day. And while I do want you to be drinking plain old H2O, you can also meet your daily fluid needs other ways too. Here are 6 ways to keep yourself hydrated all summer long.
Take a tea time: Drinking unsweetened iced tea is a great way to get cool down from the summer heat and get the liquids in at the same time! Plus tea is loaded in antioxidants that will help boost your skin’s health. Try herbal, black, green, or matcha. Hot tea counts too.
Load up on veggies: Raw vegetables are a great source of water and will add extra hydration to your day. Work in more peppers, tomatoes, celery, spinach, cucumber, and zucchini to your salads for lunch and dinner. Or try my go-to smoothie!
Don’t forget the fruit: Fruit is another option loaded in water. Add in 1 cup of strawberries or 1/2 a grapefruit to your breakfast and for snack try 1 cup of sliced watermelon with a handful of walnuts.
Go for gazpacho: Hot days practically beg for cold gazpacho! It is such a refreshing, delicious, and super hydrating way to cool down. Keep an eye out for it on restaurant menus or try my super simple (and totally flavorful) one.
Sip that sparkling: Seltzer can be a great swap for plain water. The bubbles are refreshing and you can add some flavor to it with some fresh or frozen fruit. Make sure that you are not fooled by sugar-free sodas though (which are not seltzer), look for added flavorings or sugar substitutes like aspartame on the ingredient list. Some of my top tow brands are Hint Fizz Water and Spindrift.
Set reminders: If remembering to drink water has always been tough for you, well then there’s an app for that! Download one of the many apps that will both remind you to drink water and make it a game by tracking those liquids. Or, you can go be your own and just set hourly alerts reminding you to take a hydration break for 1 glass every hour.
Always appreciate the great tips you provide!
